ATP Certifications

The ATP certification, which is mandatory by law, is a European agreement that regulates the temperature-controlled transport of perishable foods. This agreement establishes strict standards for the construction of insulated bodies used for the transport of fresh and frozen foods.

The ATP certification regulation clearly defines the types of perishable foods that must be transported under controlled temperature conditions, as well as the specific temperatures required for refrigerated and frozen transport.

 

ATP Certification Types

In particular, the ATP certification varies depending on the required transport temperature. Among the different categories of certification, the following are noteworthy:

  • ATP FRC and RRC: for transport at temperatures down to -20°C, specific for frozen foods.
  • ATP FNA: for transport at temperatures up to 0°C, intended for fresh and perishable foods.

A refrigerated van with ATP FRC certification must be capable of maintaining an internal temperature between 0°C and -20°C, even when the external temperature is +30°C.

ATP Certification Duration

The ATP certification is initially valid for 6 years and can be renewed twice, each time for a period of 3 years. These two renewals can be performed at authorized testing centers.

After twelve years, to obtain a further renewal of the certification, it is necessary to contact official testing centers. This final renewal will be valid for an additional 6 years.
